Pair of silvered bronze candlesticks inlaid with ivory, wood and brass, By the Widow Ferdinand Duvinage, 1877-1882 Pair of silvered bronze candlesticks, the round base inlaid with an ivory plate with brass cloisonné decoration and precious wood marquetry with leafy branch motifs of Japanese taste. The barrel decorated with an ivory cartridge monogrammed IB. Good general condition, some cracks in the ivory. By Widow Ferdinand Duvinage (active 1874-1882), Paris, 1877-1882. Signed "FD Bté" for Ferdinand Duvinage Breveté. H. 16.5 x D. 10 cm. Provenance Bill Pallot collection (born in 1964). History The firm of Duvinage specialized in finely worked marquetry in the Japanese taste. In 1877 Ferdinand Duvinage's widow obtained a patent for this type of decoration, which combined wood marquetry with metal cloisonné on an ivory ground.
