Fu così che nel 1989 venne presentata la nuova spider Elan M100, ispirata alla sorella Elan R26. Il telaio era monotrave in acciaio e la carrozzeria era interamente realizzata in vetroresina e Kevlar così da poter contenere il peso della vettura. Il motore di origine Isuzu, era un 4 cilindri in linea alimentato a iniezione elettronica e dotato di turbocompressore, era montato in posizione anteriore trasversale ed era abbinato ad un cambio a 5 rapporti. La più importante innovazione adottata su questo modello fu la trazione anteriore, nonostante fosse un grande cambiamento di stile per la Lotus, fu proprio questo che permise di avere una macchina veloce e precisa anche con una guida sportiva. Le linee a clessidra e il muso corto e spiovente nel quale erano incassati i fari a scomparsa, la resero una macchina moderna ed accattivante. Il magnifico esemplare da noi proposto in asta è stato immatricolato per la prima volta in Italia nel 1992. Ad oggi ha percorso solamente 53.510 Km in quasi 30 anni di vita. L’auto è del suo originale colore Yellow Mustard Lotus, con i suoi originali interni in pelle grigio scuro con strisce gialle. Ha avuto solo 3 proprietari precedenti e ha sempre effettuato tutta la manutenzione ordinaria e straordinaria prevista. Oggi quest’auto si presenta come una bellissima cabrio, due posti in salsa “british” destinata a restare per le sue linee cosi accattivanti e le sue doti da vera Lotus, un’icona di riferimento per le attuali e ancor di più per le future generazioni di appassionati di motorsport. L’auto è dotata delle sue targhe originali, di tutta la sua documentazione originale ed è iscritta presso il registro storico dell’ASI. L’auto verrà battuta in asta alla kermesse di Milano AutoClassica 2021 in condizione straordinarie. In the second half of the 1980s, Lotus, which had just been acquired by General Motors, decided to produce a model that would bring back the lightness and agility that had always distinguished the brand. Thus in 1989 the new Elan M100 sports car was presented, inspired by its sister car, the Elan R26. The chassis was a single-beam steel frame and the body was made entirely of fibreglass and Kevlar to keep the car's weight down. The engine, originally from Isuzu, was a 4-cylinder inline engine powered by electronic injection and equipped with a turbocharger, mounted in a transverse front position and combined with a 5-speed gearbox. The most important innovation adopted on this model was front-wheel drive, and although this was a major styling change for Lotus it was precisely this that made it possible to have a fast and precise car even with a sporty drive. The hourglass lines and short, sloping front end with its retractable headlights made it a modern and attractive car. The stunning example we are offering at auction was first registered in Italy in 1992. To date, it has covered only 53,510 km in almost 30 years of life. The car is in its original Yellow Mustard Lotus colour with its original dark grey leather interior with yellow stripes. It has had only 3 previous owners and has always been serviced and maintained. Today, this car is a beautiful two-seater convertible with a British flair that is destined to remain an iconic reference for current and even more so for future generations of motorsport enthusiasts. The car has its original number plates and all its original documentation and is registered with the ASI historic register. The car will be auctioned at Milano AutoClassica 2021 in extraordinary condition.
